Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Title: Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na
Year: 2008
Cast: Imran Khan, Genelia D'Souza, Ratna Pathak Shah, Naseeruddin Shah, Anuradha Patel, Ravi Vaswani.

Its the eternal story: Imran and Genelia are Best Friends Forever, and while everyone assumes they are in love, they certainly aren't. Or are they? I will let you to watch the movie and love it for yourself!

Pros:
1- Great acting by and amazing chemistry between Genelia and Imran.
2- Amazing casting coup of all the parents: Naseer and Ratna (a husband-wife duo I love love love), Jayant Kriplani (Yay!) and Anuradha Patel (adoration and applause), and Rajat Patel and Kittu Gidwani. Kisses to the casting director!
3- Prateik Babbar: Raj Babbar and Smita Patil's son in a small but adorable role as Genelia's brother. Acts well, and looks remarkably like both his parents. I want to see more of this guy, as much as I want to see more of Imran and Genelia.

Cons:
1- Someone was suffering from a Harry Potter hang-over (not that it is necessarily a bad thing). We have deceased folks (Naseer) walking in their portraits. We also have the hero dreaming about who he thinks is his dad, but turns out to be himself by the end of the movie. heeh.
2- A paper-thin plot. Because the story is only so much, despite all the great acting and fun all around, some scenes felt a bit repetitive. If it was edited from 2.5 to 2 hours, it'd work better than it does already.

I had no idea Naseer-ji and Ratna were in this movie! YAY! I couldn't wait to see it as it is, but now am jiggling in my seat with anticipation. ;-)

Its a cliched story but the humorous treatment lifts it into the realm of 'entertaining'! For e.g. all those scenes of Jai being true to his non-violent heritage. Then there was the hilarious airport climax and of course Naseer-Ratna's running argument. I too thought Naseer's role was straight out of Harry Potter - but the two were great together.

Some corrections though, Genelia's father is Jayant Kriplani not Ravi Vaswani (was Vaswani in the movie?) and Kitu Gidwani was with Rajat Kapoor (not Patel).

Great comment about all the parents in the movie sheweta! SO true and very well cast. I had no idea that Prateik Babbar was Raj Babbar and Smita Patil's kid. I want to do a post on the movie soon, mostly because I think he's the first "emo" I've seen in a Bollywood flick. :)

Also, I started watching Dil Dosti Etc. last night and the lead, Imaad Shah as 'Apurv', kept reminding me of Naseeruddin Shah, in looks and his movement style. So I do a bit of post movie internet research and BINGO! He IS the son of Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak! Just when I was getting used to Imran being their son. :)

All the best,
Sita-ji

Ajnabi: V lil Naseer (but when is he enuff?), but they are both so cute! I wish they'd be paired in more movies :)

Bollyviewer: You are of course right- corrected! There is no Ravi in the movie, but from some personal quirk, I seem to find Jayant and Ravi interchangeable and equally adorable- maybe becos they were both from the 80s??? who knows... As for Naseer- he was truly outstanding- if I watch this again, it'd be for his scenes w/ Ratna.

Bollywoodfoodclub: hehe- he IS emo- spot on :D You know, I fastforwarded my way thru "Dil Dosti etc" for 2 reasons- Imaad, and the blind friend he has in the movie (who has like maybe 1 dialogue!), who in real life is a v v good friend of mine in Delhi. I wasnt too impressed by Imaad's acting tho- but maybe he needs a better platform- being Naseer and Ratna's kid must b a lot to live up to!

Agree totally that it could be shorter. The film just works superbly because of the characters and performances. I thought Imran was a bit stiff, but the director used him really well. I loved the friends too. Specially Jignesh.

Bollyfan: lols- I am SO slayed by your comment!!! :D but seriously, it'd b SUCH a shocker if they died like RDB and QSQT- rofl. I think I'm going to come back and read this every time I want a mood boost. heeh- I really gotta stop laughing...thanks! the airport bit was cool, but so been-there-seen-that- if it wasnt for Imran and Genelia, and the bit with Imran in the Xray machine (so hilarious!)it'd be v humdrum.

Banno: Agree w/ u on all counts! Jignesh is SUCH a ethnic stereotype- though nothing wrong w/ that at all :D I will be watching 2050 tonite, though I honestly doubt my review will be 1/2 as cool as urs!

Shweta,

I can't wait to see this! I've heard soo many good things, but not enough to be considered over-hype that would cause my expectations to be too high...

P.S. Is there a way to subscribe to your blog?
