TZP'09 bulletin quicky update

While Shakuntala Devi has been making the rounds claiming that Taare Zameen Par is plagarized from her In the Wonderland of Numbers, the movie has been dubbed in English for the Oscar jury.
I cannot comment on Ms. Devi's views not having read the book, but I am really hoping the dubbing was a good idea. Honestly, I am not a fan of dubbed movies: when folks speak in 1 language, their mouths move way differently that the dubbed-over language (I am sure there is a proper term for this, but I am not going to go looking for it right now), and it just looks really really weird. Takes away from the movie cos I am constantly gaping at the actor's mouths :D

Meanwhile, wth is that Disney release?????

Doesn't the Oscar panel read subtitles all the time? What's the worry in this case, I wonder?

So it took her a year to see the movie and realize that this was filched from her book? After the publicity blitz? And all those interviews on every single media ever invented? Hmmm. Sure.

It's called 'out-synch'. Very distracting, sure.

I am also not a Fan of dubbed movies. It creates awful visuals.

But who had dubbed for whom? any info?

Cause I see regularly Darsheel, on Tata sky helpline channel. [same video runing over again], when i change my audio language, it sound - -- yes 'weird'

Beth: Its v strange. Subtitles are better than dubbing I think- at least I can then focus myself just reading :\

Amrita: I think its a difficult questoin. Shakuntala Devi sounds the last person who would do this just for publicity to sell a book- she shouldnt need it. On the other hand, I doubt Amir would NOT recognize an inspiration from a book. Maybe they can talk it out? Perhaps he was loosely inspired by the book and wasnt copying scene by scene? I'd actually like to read the book for comparison.

Thanks Banno! Of course you knew the term- me will remember now :)

Darshit: It sounds from Tisca's interview that she at least dubbed for her own portion. The rest could do it also for themselves, but then I honestly dont see the need!

I rather have subtitles too but I do believe that more people prefer dubbing. My parents are like that.

Niki: That does make sense and makes me feel better about the whole thing- that also agrees w/ Bollyfan's take on it.

BollyFan: Oh that makes sense about the dubbing then- its horribly distracting though, but at least it'll reach out to folks.
Re: Shakuntla Devi: I honestly have too high a regard for her to assume she would do this just for book sales. Maybe she has misconstrued matters somehow. Maybe Amol was inspired by her! and Maybe she should just go talk to Amir herself and sort out things- I'm sure he wont refuse talking to her.

Aamir is (naturally) against piracy, but then forces his fans to pirate in order to see his damn films. Makes no sense at all.
